Remember that wires of the same color connect to each other. Basically, electrical wires are color coded to prevent wiring errors. White wires are normally used to connect to other white wires or to chrome terminal screws on switches and receptacles. Black wires in the cables are intended for connecting switches. However, there are cases where a cable is extended. If this is the material, white wires are often used instead of black wires. To be able to prevent future wiring errors, try to paint the white wire black.
